Summer Showcase Day 2 Standouts

Concord, NC – To kick off the summer travel season, some of the top programs from the Carolinas and their neighbors rolled into Concord ready to set the courts on fire. This is not only the beginning of the summer travel season, but also the first time in over a year college coaches have been able to sit baseline and watch players play in person. Day 2 picked up right where Day 1 left off. The games were fast paced, intense, thrilling, and everything a basketball fan could ask for. Listed are a few of the dynamic players that showed up and showed out on Day 2.

 

Day 2 Standouts

Sydney Bell 2023   Team Thunder NC
A feisty guard that did a great job of playing the passing lanes on defense, Sydney was the quiet storm on her team. She did not have the loudest voice on the court, but she packed a mean punch. She sank several deep threes off the bounce, helping her team clinch a big win.

Zoe Henderson 2023     Team Curry 16u UAA
Clutch players want the ball in their hands when it’s time to make a big play and Zoe was just that. The entire game she stayed even killed and made great decisions to help shift the momentum in her team’s favor. She helped to control the offensive tempo and was an offensive threat. In an sudden death match, Zoe called for the ball, made a dominant and bold move to the basket, and finished with a game winning layup. 

Laniya Scales 2024   FBC Carolina Elite-Kent
Laniya is long and athletic, able to be productive on the wing and in the paint. She very versatile in many different aspects of her game. She can step out and knock down a three, battle for rebounds, and post-up on the block. She did an excellent job of running the court and making herself available.

Elliot Jessup 2024   FBC Carolina Elite-Kent
An athletic wing that can jump out of the gym, Elliot was great at hanging around the rim and following her teammates in transition for rebounds and easy put backs. She’s quick and long, causing all type of disturbance on defense. She is a strong on the ball, often altering and forcing bad shots.

Rhian Lawrence 2023   Carolina Flames 16U EYBL-Richard
Rhian put her game IQ and skills on full display. She made great decisions with ball. She dished out crisp passes and took great shots. She never loss her head and in the final seconds of a very competitive game, she made an awesome spin to the basket and sank a layup to send the game into overtime.  

Sydney Barker 2023   Carolina Flames 17U EYBL-Morris
Sydney is a gritty point guard that handles the ball extremely well under pressure. Her court vision is clear and she used it to make almost perfect lead passes to her teammates for easy buckets. She knows how to feed the block and when to draw the defense to create shots for others. She has a nice jump shot at the elbow that she sank consistently.

Laniya Simes 2023    FBC Carolina Elite-Mel
A hustle player that works hard every possession, Laniya gave what her team needed her to give. She can knock the three when she needs to. She kept her head up and advanced the ball quickly in transition for easy baskets. Laniya plays strong help defense, timing the passing lanes just right for steals.

Jaylyn and Jasmine Twitty 2023    Lady Royals 11th
Twins that have almost identical games is rare. However, these young ladies resemble each other in more ways than one. Both Jaylyn and Jasmine hustle every play. They are not afraid to dive on the floor, jump out of bounds to save a possession or battle bigger players for rebounds. They are both vocal on defense, calling out picks and switches. Jasmine seems to be more comfortable putting the ball on the floor and driving to the hoop, while Jaylyn can knock down the twelve-footer.  

Reychel Douglas 2023   Carolina Flames 17u EYBL-Morris
Reychel works hard! On both ends of the court she left her mark. She can play the 1, 2, and 3 effectively. She is smart, always making great basketball plays with and without the ball. She is a solid defender with great timing, using her long arms to deflect the ball and snatch passes out of the air. She is tough and as no problem getting on the court to battle for the ball or enduring some contact on her way to the rim.

Kyla Bryant 2023    Team Curry 16u UAA
Kyla is bigger guard that has no problem using her strength to her advantage. She often bulldozed her way to the rim and finishing with a nice move and a soft touch. She thinks like a basketball player, and it shows in her decision making and ability to switch up the pace of the game. She is a floor leader that can create shots for herself and others.  

 

Zhykera Brown 2025  The SC76ers 15u Premier
A strong guard that can bully her way into anywhere, Zhykera’sgame demands your attention. She calls for the ball because she knows what to do with it in multiple situations. She is crafty with an arsenal of moves to get free from her defenders and hit easy buckets. To say she can create her own shot is an understatement. Zhykera can also step outside the perimeter and knock down some pretty deep three-point shots. 

Mila Holloway 2023     Carolina Flames 16u EYBL-Richard
Mila is a patient point guard that did a good job of making sure that her team maximized every possession. She is a vocal floor leader, but was also effective in the #2 spot, listening to directives and executing. She was locked in on defense and helped force numerous turnovers for the other teams. Mila is fast and can get down the court and score quickly in transition.
