Team Carolina has had a couple teams play at several LBI events this year and both have their own strong players to offer bringing some good competition to each tournament.
Hannah Larios (2021) is a great ball handler and used her vision to set up some good plays for her team. She can also shoot from all over the court and even behind the arc. When she is not handling the ball right before she shoots, she positions herself well always being ready to put up the shot. She is a tenacious defender as well preventing any guards from getting by her with the ball.
Natalie Parris (2021) consistently finds herself in a position to make a contribution for her team. She runs underneath the basket to grab rebounds, and she is strong and persistent with her efforts to grab each one. For offensive rebounds, she is always prepared to put the shot back up for her own points. She is a great ball handler as well showing that she can push the ball up the court. She is very good at jumping into passing lanes causing deflections and steals disrupting the opponents’ offense.
Samantha Davis (2022) had a phenomenal performance at Carolina Jamfest making plays all over the court. She was making shots from everywhere as well as making the best cuts to set herself up for a bucket. In an overtime battle, she hit the game winning free throws remaining calm the entire time. On defense, she does an excellent job moving around her opponent constantly repositioning herself to make the best play on the ball even against girls that are taller than her. She is aggressive when it comes to grabbing rebounds and using post moves on offense to contribute some more points.
Handling the ball for Team Carolina 16U, Sarah Roberson (2022) is a threat on both ends of the court. She moves well with the ball finding her open teammates or making her own drives to the basket. She does not hesitate to go up against contact, and can convert points from the free throw line. It is not unusual to see her grab a handful of steals in her games, too, which she knows how to convert by pushing the ball back up the other end of the court.
Sydney Williams (2022) is a force in the paint having a handful of blocks in one half at LBI Carolina Live, and that seems to be a common occurrence. She also tracked the ball well jumping into passing lanes grabbing steals that way. On offense, she positioned herself well on the block constantly moving her body to make sure she could get the best entry pass in order to score her points.
Mazie Helpman (2022) was phenomenal at LBI Carolina Live coming out strong for her team immediately hitting three pointers and creating aggressive drives for herself in the lane. She was constantly moving without the ball finding the open ares in order for her to contribute for her team. On defense, she created some plays by grabbing steals in order to push the ball up to the other end of the court.
Sierra Wade (2023) is a strong shooter from behind the arc. Guards better learn how to close out on her because she is ready to shoot every time she gets the ball. She finds more ways to contribute besides just her shot by moving well with the ball and knowing where her teammate was going to be moving to so she can make the best pass for her to score. She is a tough defender as well causing problems for defenses, especially since it seems like she knows what the opposing offense is planning before they get a chance to do it.
A player that seems to hold her composure well throughout any game no matter what the score is Macy Wike (2023). At Carolina Jamfest, she hit the game tying three pointer that sent the game into overtime. Her ability to shoot all over the court and constantly find various ways to contribute is great to see in a young athlete. Wike has a great vision of the court knowing where to make her cuts, and she handles the ball well pushing it up the court. She is very strong with the ball and aggressive when grabbing rebounds in order to end the opposing team’s possessions. She also tracks the ball well jumping into passing lanes and making some nice blocks in her games.
An addition of Mia Wilson (2023) is helpful because she can contribute from all over the court. She knows how to create separation from her defender to make a jump shot, or she can blow by her opponents to drive in order to score a basket. On defense, she does a great job moving to where she is needed on help or preventing her opponent from scoring.
Aliyah Corpening (2023) is another one of Team Carolina’s main ball handlers who moves fluidly with the ball and knows where to go to find the openings in the defense. She drives in the lane well herself, or she finds her open teammate to make the best play. She also moves well without the ball helping run the floor or set herself up for her own jump shot.
Emma Larios (2023) is definitely a next level athlete who moves so well with the ball and seems to make amazing plays just when you think the offensive possession for her team may be breaking down. She is a tenacious defender, and guards seem to always have trouble getting by her when she implements a full court press. She has an excellent shot from all over the court, and she knows how to blow by any defender that tries to guard her. She gets all of her teammates involved as well finding them for some good looks inside or along the wing.
Katie Alexander (2023) is someone who could teach the fundamentals of being an all around contributor from her vocal leadership on the court to her ball handling to her ability to shoot from anywhere. Her IQ on the court is apparent because she knows how to move well with and without the ball, and she runs the floor well contributing in some way on most of Team Carolina’s fast breaks. She has a great outside shot, but she is not scared to post up underneath to score a basket or grab a rebound. At LBI Carolina Live, she was patient letting plays develop as the main player who was inbounding the ball showing that she knows the importance of timing and trusting her teammates.
Another vocal player is EP Sluder (2023). She constantly talks to her teammates about what the opponents are doing and what she is doing to help her teammates. This helps her excel on defense moving all over the court and causing problems, especially when she is involved in their full court press. She does well with handling the ball, and she makes great passes into her teammates getting everyone involved. She can certainly score from anywhere on the court.
A tall, athletic player that hustles more than most girls her age is Evangelia Paulk (2023). She knows how to use her length to cause problems on defense grabbing steals and jumping into passing lanes. On offense, she has an excellent shot from behind the arc, and she does not hesitate when driving inside going up against contact.
Dorothy Mills (2024) was impactful coming off the bench pushing the ball up the court. She even grabbed some rebounds herself ending the possession of her opponent. She would also end others’ possessions with steals. On offense, she was hitting some great shots from all over the court.
